Buffalo Case Assignment Changes

Please note that effective for bankruptcy cases filed on or after August 1, 2019, Erie County cases will be assigned to either Chief Judge Carl L. Bucki or to Judge Warren; no new Erie County cases will be assigned to Judge Michael J. Kaplan.  Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases in Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties will continue to be assigned to Judge Kaplan.  Judge assignments for all other counties in the district remain the same.

 

Chambers copies for cases, adversary proceedings, and matters assigned to Chief Judge Bucki or Judge Kaplan must be submitted to the Buffalo Clerk's Office.  Chambers copies for cases, adversary proceedings, and matters assigned to Judge Warren, including for Erie County cases, must be submitted to the Rochester Clerk's Office.

 

Matters in Erie County cases that are assigned to Judge Warren will be scheduled in Buffalo unless otherwise directed. Please check the Judge Warren, Judge Kaplan, and the calendar pages on this website regarding calendar practice for each judge due to the new case assignment process.

 

Please also note the following regarding hearing location information for Erie County bankruptcy cases:

 

1.  The location for all matters for Erie County cases before Chief Judge Bucki will remain the same – Orleans Courtroom.

 

2.  The location for all matters for Erie County cases before Judge Kaplan prior to October 7, 2019 remains the same -- Wyoming Courtroom.  The location for all matters before Judge Kaplan after October 7, 2019 will be the ORLEANS COURTROOM.

 

3.  The location for all matters for Erie County cases before Judge Warren will be the ORLEANS COURTROOM.
